Prairie Sun Service Unit has 59 Girl Scout troops in the southern half of
Eden Prairie, Minnesota. We serve over 500 girls and 250 adults from 6
different schools.
We hold many service unit events during the course of the year. One of our
favorite events is Prairie Sun Winter Fun, our annual SU camp-in held in
January or February at Camp Greenwood, in Buffalo. This year, PSWF III was
held in February, and we had a large crowd. Activities will included
snowshoeing, sledding, crafts, singing, skits, SWAPping and lots of just
plain fun! Every troop that is Junior age or older must bring a craft or
activity to teach the younger girls. Each year, we have been blessed with
wonderful weather - we have never been "snowed in" at camp, but you never
know in Minnesota . . .
In March, we have arranged for the City of Eden Prairie to issue a
proclamation celebrating Girl Scout week, in celebration of the 85th birthday
of Girl Scouts. Girls will be invited to the city council meeting to hear
the proclamation.
We are also looking forward to our Girl/Adult Event in April (traditionally a
father/daughter activity), which will be a Western Dance, complete with a
square dance caller! Everyone comes dressed to match the theme, and has a
terrific time.
We will also have a Leader/Daughter Kidnap Breakfast in the spring, where we
will meet at a local buffet restaurant on a Saturday morning, attired in
(what else?) our pajamas! We did this last year, and it was loads of fun!
Prairie Sun Service Project - "Hidden Heroines Tea"
In celebration of the 85th Girl Scout birthday, Prairie Sun Service Unit is
sponsoring a women's history project. Each troop will choose a "hidden
heroine" from our community to contact, interview, and honor. Interviews
will be compiled into a booklet which will be distributed at our Hidden
Heroines Tea, which will take place in late spring. Troops will act as
hostesses for their heroines at the tea.
Involvement in this project will allow the girls to earn GSUSA's Hidden
Heroines patch. Troops may continue their exploration of women's and
community history to earn a number of other badges, including the Her Story
Try-It, Listening to the Past Try-It, and Across Generations badge.
